The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities continues to implement decisions aimed at deregulation and reducing the administrative burden on electricity market participants.
On May 26, 2026, NKREKP adopted Resolution No. 789, introducing amendments to certain regulatory acts in the areas of electricity generation and energy storage.
One of the key changes is the increase in the capacity threshold for energy storage facilities that do not require licensing. The threshold has been raised from 150 kW to 5 MW. This is expected to support the further development of energy storage systems and simplify the implementation of such projects.
In addition, NKREKP has reduced the amount of information that applicants and licensees must submit to carry out activities related to electricity generation and energy storage. The amendments also allow electricity generation and energy storage activities to be carried out at the same electricity facility under a single license.
The adopted changes are expected to support the development of distributed generation, energy storage systems, and the further modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector.
